Our philosophy is based on good solid techniques and applications. The atmosphere here is fun and our classes are geared toward helping you learn. Whether it’s for fitness, self-defense, or sport fighting (MMA) you'll always find a place in our gym.
The difference is in what we offer:
- The Techniques of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Muay Thai Kickboxing from qualified instructors:
The basis of realistic self-defense and sport fighting.
- Helping you set realistic goals and meeting those goals without mystery or confusion:
we were all beginners once, and we understand what it’s like.
- Having fun while learning, making friends, and helping one another improve skills and techniques.
We teach because we love what we do and you stick with it because you’re having fun while learning.
It is important to remember that proficiency in any martial art takes time and patience, and no one understands this better than we do. We have well over 50 years of combined training experience and bring that maturity to help you succeed.

Jiu-jitsu class
A typical class lasts 1 ½ to 2 hours and consists of 10 minutes of warm up exercises, some are done for conditioning and some are specific to improving grappling skills. This is followed by 30 minutes of throwing drills and ground-fighting techniques with individualized assistance.
Finally, we spend about 30 minutes training with a partner in a controlled grappling session. This is where we try to employ what we’ve learned to effectively overwhelm an opponent.
In all classes, emphasis is directed toward practice in the most challenging positions; especially defense from the guard and escaping other positions where you are on your back.
The easiest part of Jiu-jitsu is memorizing “finishing” or “submission” holds; the hardest part is getting to the positions where you can use them.
Kickboxing class
Generally it begins with the same exercises as the Jiu-jitsu class, followed by shadow- boxing and footwork practice for 10 to 15 minutes. Pad-work usually follows with pairs of individuals taking turns drilling striking combinations (all eight striking points will be emphasized: hands, elbows, feet, and knees) against hand held pads as well as Muay Thai’s famous clinch and knee drills. This is where the instructors will spend individual time critiquing your form. In time (a few months usually), experienced kickboxers will be encouraged to free spar with other experienced students in a controlled atmosphere where we learn to implement our skills.
