Our Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes typically lasts 1 ½ to 2 hours and consists of 10 minutes of warm up exercises, some are done for conditioning and some are specific to improving grappling skills. This is followed by 30 minutes of throwing drills and ground-fighting techniques with individualized assistance.
Finally, we spend about 30 minutes training with a partner in a controlled grappling session. This is where we try to employ what we've learned to effectively overwhelm an opponent. In all classes, emphasis is directed toward practice in the most challenging positions; especially defense from the guard and escaping other positions where you are on your back.
The easiest part of Jiu-jitsu is memorizing "finishing" or "submission" holds; the hardest part is getting to the positions where you can use them.
